32_(Fear of Allah Alone)

QS Al-Imran (3: 175)

“It is only Satan that suggests to you the fear of his ‘AuIiya [supporters and friends (polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah and in His Messenger Muhammad (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) so fear them not, but fear me, if you are (true) believers.”

QS At-Tawbah (9:18)

“The Mosques of Allah shall be maintained only by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day; offer prayers perfectly (Iqamat-as-SaIat), and give Zakat and fear none but Allah. It is they who are expected to be on true guidance.”

1. Fear that has been legislated / Ghasyiah

   The more you increase in knowledge the more you will have fear of Allah subhanawataala. This type of fear stems from knowledge.

   1. Recognizing one’s deficiency & recognizing how great Allah subhanawataala is

      3 Types of Fear (Al-Khawf / الخوف)

   2. Pondering upon the science that strikes a fear in the person’s heart. For example : the eclipse.

   3. Fearing the sin of doing a bad deed & the humiliation that comes with it.

   4. Having a constant fear that you will have a bad ending.

   5. Having fear that the good deeds will not be accepted from you.

   6. Taking precaution of the sin.

   It is important that a person worship Allah with a balance of fear and hope. Hope that our actions & efforts will be accepted & rewarded. Fear that our deed might not be enough and not be accepted.

   👦 **The ice cream boy theory:** A child listens an ice cream truck is coming, this child is hopeful that his mother his mother will allow him, but he also has the fear that the ice cream truck will be gone if he takes too long.

2. Fear that has been prohibited (Al-Khawf Mamnu)

   

   

   🕋 **Abu Sa'id** (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated the following Marfu' Hadith: "It is the weakness of certainty (complete Faith) to seek pleasure of others by displeasing Allah and to praise others for the livelihood which was provided by Allah and to blame others for the thing not bestowed by Allah. Not even the greediness of the most greedy person can bring the livelihood of Allah, and not even anybody's aversion can prevent it." [Reported by Abu Nu'aim in Al-Hilyah].

   

   🕋 **`Ai shah** (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Allah's Messenger (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever seeks Allah's pleasure at the cost of men's displeasure, will win the pleasure of Allah and Allah will cause men to be pleased with him. Whoever seeks to please men at the cost of Allah's displeasure, will win the displeasure of Allah, and Allah will cause men to be displeased with Him." [Reported by Ibn Hibban in his Sahih].

   1. Shirk Fear that leads to shirk by fearing someone/something other than Allah in a way that can only be for Allah.

      One can fall into shirk with an action of the heart.

      👨 A rich man lent money to people, however the people takes advantage of him thinking that because he is rich, there is no need to pay him back. Upset, the man says something along the line 'If you don't pay me back, I will go to so and so's grave and ask so and so and I'm gonna request him to deal with you guys. Only then, the people becomes scared.

   2. Sinful

      Fear that prevents you in doing what pleases Allah : leaving obligations or doing something that is prohibited.

      This normally happens if somebody has sickness in their heart.

      👨 A groom forced to sit in the woman's section so he can sit with the bride.

3. Fear that has been permissible / mubah

   Natural type of fear such as insects, dog, beasts etc.
