- Cleansing the heart
- Connection of the heart to Allah The poet said:
Our sincerity to Allah is cleansing the heart from anything else but Him. Beware O’ intelligent one.

(p.18) Imam Bukhari said in al-Jaami’ al-Musnad aṣ- Ṣaḥeeḥ, and Imam Muslim in al-Musnad aṣ-Ṣaḥeeḥ (and the wording is that of al-Bukhārī, the translation of which is), “‘Abdullāh ibn Maslamah narrated to us, saying, Mālik informed us, from Yaḥyā ibn Sa’eed, from Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm, from ‘Alqamah, from ‘Umar (may Allāh be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وسلم said, ‘Actions are according to intention, and every person will have what they intended.‘” Refer to: 01 - Deeds are Based on Its Intentions
This hadith is a fundamental principle in Islam. This hadith has a single chain. Also known from Ahad. We often hear people speaking down of this type of hadith and it is part of deviancy in belief. But you will see that many scholars start their book with this hadith. Imam As-Syafi’i said about this hadith, this hadith enters into 70 chapters of knowledge.
Niyyah means 2 things:
- What is the intention for this particular act of worship → niyyah It is what distinguishes one act of worship from another. Example: both duhr & ashar have 4 rakaats, You can take a shower every morning but it is not ghusl.
- Who are you intending the action for → ikhlas
